Pray for the people on the other side of the argument. God loves them as much as he loves your side.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The other side consists of people and the argument makes that easy to forget. Online especially, opposition arrives as a position rather than a person, and whatever you believe about the issue, the people holding the opposite view are not less loved than the ones holding yours. Praying for them is unusually effective at interrupting the slide into contempt, which is the real danger in any long disagreement.

Pick one person on the other side of something you care about this week and ask for something good for them. Specifically. Then go back and make your argument properly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which side do you argue against as if it had no people?
