You do not need permission from people who only know the version you’re replacing.

People who knew an earlier version of you are working from an old picture, and their assessment of what you are capable of now is based on information that has expired. Waiting for them to endorse the change means waiting for an update they may never make. Their view is not malicious and it is not current. It also is not a requirement.

Notice whose approval you are quietly waiting for and whether they have seen who you are now. Proceed without it, and let the evidence accumulate. Some people will update when they see the results, and some will not, and both outcomes are survivable.
