Nothing sends advance notice. Feet, voice, height, where you fit in a room: it all shifts without consultation, and you find out afterwards by standing in shoes that no longer work. Life has the same manners.
So keep a little slack where you can: a bit of money untouched, a plan with one spare option, a week with nothing booked in it. Then, when something changes without warning, you are adjusting rather than scrambling. Expect to be resized, and leave room for it.
