The hardest part of changing is your friends’ memory of the old you. Give them time to catch up.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Other people are still running an older copy of you. They respond to what you used to do, hand you the role you used to play, and get it wrong in ways that are genuinely annoying when you have worked to change. It is not usually malice; updating somebody takes repeated evidence and they have years of the old version on file.

Keep behaving like the current version where they can see it and resist the lecture about how you are different now. Give them a few months of ordinary proof. The ones who matter will catch up, and the catching up happens quietly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who still introduces you as a person you no longer are?
