The first friend you make after a move might not be your forever friend. They’re your first one, and that still matters.

An early friendship in a new place is built out of circumstance: you were both there, both unattached, both glad of somebody. That is a real foundation for a while and often not a permanent one, and discovering later that you have little in common does not make it false. Getting through the first months is a genuine service they did you.
Let the first one be the first one without auditioning them for forever. Keep meeting other people at the same time. If it fades after a year, remember what it was for and be straightforwardly grateful.
