Getting let go from a job feels like the end. For a lot of people it’s the push into the job that actually fit.

Being let go knocks your footing as much as your income, and it is fair for that to flatten you for a while. What is also true is that few people leave a bad fit on their own, so an ending often does the thing you were not going to do yourself. Plenty of people trace a job that suited them back to a day that felt like the worst one.

Give yourself a week before deciding what it means. Then write down what that job did and did not give you, and let it shape where you look next. Tell a few people you are looking.
