The easiest time to change a habit is right after life shakes up your routine: a move, a new school, a new job.

Habits are held in place by the surroundings they live in: the same room, the same route, the same people at the same hour. When those break, the cues break with them, and for a few weeks the behaviour is unusually easy to put down or swap. After that the new setting hardens and you are back to prising things loose.
If something has just changed, spend the first fortnight deliberately rather than letting it settle itself. Pick one habit to drop and one to install while nothing is fixed yet. Moves, new terms and new jobs are the cheap windows.
What upheaval coming up could you use to reset a habit?
