Real leaders don’t take the easy shift because they can. They take the hard one because they can.

Any amount of authority comes with the option of spending it on yourself first. Picking the comfortable slot is allowed and everybody notices, after which every request you make gets weighed against what you kept back. Choosing the difficult one is the same privilege spent in the opposite direction, and it buys something no instruction can.
Take the shift nobody wants the next time you get to choose, and do not mention that you did. Saturday night, the early open, the station everyone avoids. People stop arguing about fairness once they have seen where you put yourself.
Which hard job could you take instead of handing over?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
