“Follow me” works once. “Here’s the plan and here’s your part” works all season.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Charisma can move people once, because it asks them to trust you without handing them anything to hold. A plan with named parts works differently, since each person learns what depends on them. That is what turns a crowd into a team, and it keeps working after the excitement wears off.

Before the next practice or shift, write down the two or three pieces of the job and whose each one is. Say both parts out loud to the people involved. Notice how much less chasing you have to do afterward.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you given people a plan or just your example?
