Don’t rescue people from every struggle. Sometimes leading means letting them figure it out while you stay close.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Stepping in every time somebody struggles removes the only part of the process where learning happens. The struggle is not a sign the handover failed, it is usually the thing working. What they need is not rescue but the knowledge that you are nearby if it truly goes wrong, which is a different and harder kind of presence.
When you next feel the pull to take something back, wait longer than is comfortable and stay visible instead. Say plainly that you are around if they want you. Step in only when the cost of failing is bigger than the lesson.
Whose struggle should you stay near without stepping into?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
