A homesick camper doesn’t need to hear it’s fine. They need a job to do.

LEADERSHIP
Being told a feeling is unreasonable rarely makes it smaller, and it can add embarrassment on top. Something to do works better, because it turns attention outward and gives the person a place in what is happening. The job itself matters less than the belonging that comes with it. Usefulness is a form of comfort that does not require anybody to discuss feelings.
When somebody is struggling to settle in, give them a small real task and a partner to do it with. Keep it concrete: carrying something, counting something, showing another person where things are. Check in later without mentioning the homesickness.
Who near you would feel steadier holding a job?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
