Funny is a great gift. Funny as a shield gets heavy to carry.

Humour opens rooms, and it also makes an excellent hiding place. If every serious moment gets a joke dropped on it, you end up well liked and not actually known, and after a while people stop asking how you are because they expect a routine rather than an answer. That gets heavy, mostly because nobody can tell you are carrying it.

Let one serious thing stand unjoked this week. When somebody asks how you are, give the plain answer first. The funny version can follow once the true one has landed.
