The truth rarely needs as much defending as a lie does.

Something accurate can sit still. It does not need constant maintenance, elaborate framing, or a new layer whenever a question comes up, because reality keeps confirming it without help. A false account has to be actively held up, and every question adds another piece of structure that also needs holding.

Use the effort as your signal, both in others and in yourself. If a position requires an enormous amount of explaining each time it comes up, look at whether it is true rather than at how to defend it better. Exhaustion around a claim is usually diagnostic.
