You don’t always have to be improving. Sometimes it’s enough to sit on the porch and be a person.

Constant self-improvement can turn into a second job, one that never closes and never pays. Rest is not something you earn by being productive first, and an afternoon spent doing nothing in particular is not a gap in your development. You are allowed to exist without a project attached to you. Some of your steadiest thinking happens when you are not trying to think.
Give yourself one stretch this week with no goal in it: no podcast teaching you something, no workout, no plan. Sit outside or lie on the floor and let it be boring. Notice that your future survives it fine.
When did you last sit somewhere without trying to get better?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
