It’s fine to outgrow a nickname, a style or a crowd. Growing is supposed to change the fit.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Growing means the fit changes, and that goes for clothes, names and company alike. Holding onto something because it used to suit you is a way of staying loyal to an earlier version of yourself at the current one’s expense. Nobody is betrayed by this. The awkwardness usually comes from other people needing a moment to update their picture.

Let go of one thing this week that no longer fits, quietly rather than with an announcement. If somebody keeps using the old name, correct them once, pleasantly.
