Eyewitnesses can be confident and wrong at the same time. Confidence isn’t proof.

REFLECTION
How sure a person sounds and how right they are turn out to be two separate things. The brain can hand you a vivid, detailed, completely wrong picture and attach total conviction to it, and from the inside there is no way to tell that apart from accuracy. So confidence is a feeling, and feelings do not check themselves.
In any disagreement about what happened, stop weighing who sounds surest and start asking what each person actually saw and from where. That one question settles more arguments than volume ever has. And when you are the sure one, it is worth asking of yourself first.
