Clear water can still be toxic. Calm on the outside isn’t proof of okay on the inside.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Looking fine is not the same as being fine, and it is often a skill learned early. Calm is what you show when you have decided not to be a problem for anybody, so the steadiest person in the room is sometimes the one holding the most. Nothing on the surface tells you what is underneath.

If you have a quiet feeling about somebody, you can just ask, without waiting for the right moment. Ask twice, because the first answer is usually the polite one, and let the silence sit rather than filling it. If they would rather not, that is fine, and they will know the offer was real.
