“Nothing happened today” usually means “I didn’t look.”

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Days are not empty, reports about them are. Something happened in every hour of today, and the reason you cannot name any of it is that nothing arrived labelled as an event, so none of it got filed. A day described as nothing is a day that went past without being looked at.

Test it tonight by writing three true things from today, however small. What somebody said in the hallway, the weather at four o’clock, something that nearly went wrong at work. The exercise takes two minutes and it reliably produces a day you would have sworn was blank.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What actually happened today that you dismissed as nothing?
