At night a rainy window turns into a mirror. Sometimes that’s the only time all day you actually look at yourself.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Dark glass gives you back your own face while you were looking out at something else. Being caught like that is useful precisely because it is unposed, in the middle of a thought. The rest of the day you see yourself only when you have arranged it, with a camera or a mirror or a reflection you checked on purpose. The accidental look is the one that registers.

If it happens this week, do not glance away straight off. Ask what the person in the glass seems to be carrying. You do not have to solve it, only admit you noticed, and then go back to watching the rain.
