Some grudges get passed down like old furniture. You’re allowed to leave that one on the curb.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some of what you carry against people was handed to you before you could weigh it. One family stops speaking to another, and a generation later the reason has thinned into a habit nobody can explain but everybody keeps. Inherited resentment costs you something real: a cousin, a neighbour, a person you were never allowed to find out about. You did not choose it, which also means you are not obliged to keep it.

Pick one and ask what you actually know first-hand. If the answer is nothing, you are allowed to be ordinary with that person. Being civil is not a betrayal of whoever is still angry.
