Good strategy isn’t complicated. It’s simple enough that you can follow it when you’re stressed.

Complexity is pleasant to design and useless under pressure. A plan with nine branches works beautifully in your head on a calm evening and evaporates the moment your heart rate climbs. What survives stress is short, obvious and already decided. Elaborate plans are often a way of avoiding the one hard choice sitting in the middle.
Cut whatever you are planning down to three steps you could recite without looking. If it will not fit, something has not been decided yet. Test it on a bad day rather than a good one, because a bad day is when it has to hold.
