You can’t attend every event. But someone will remember which ones you skipped for no reason.

You genuinely cannot be everywhere, and nobody sensible expects it. What gets noticed is not the absence itself but whether there was a reason, because missing the thing somebody cared about with no explanation reads as a ranking you did not mean to publish. A short reason changes it completely.

When you cannot make something that matters to someone, say so beforehand and say why, even briefly. Then show up to the next one. Most of what people remember is whether you treated their thing as real.
