A friend you can be bored with is a friend you’ll have for a long time.

Entertainment is not a durable basis for anything. If the friendship only works when something is happening, it quietly ends when your schedules change, because there is nothing underneath the activity. Boredom removes the activity and shows you what is left. Two people who can sit in a car with nothing planned have the version that survives different schools, jobs and towns.

Spend an evening with somebody with nothing arranged and no plan to make one. Do not fill it with a film. Notice how it feels, because that is a fairly accurate reading of where the friendship actually is.
