A good friend doesn’t bring the drama to your doorstep just because they know where you live.

Access is not the same as a standing invitation. Knowing somebody well enough to show up unannounced with a crisis also means knowing what they can carry this week, and a decent friend does the second part. The line is not about refusing to need help. It is about whether you check, or just arrive and start unloading.

Before you dump the whole thing, ask one question: is now okay. Nine times out of ten the answer is yes, and asking is what makes the yes real. Give people the same courtesy in reverse, and say so when you genuinely have nothing left to give today.
