If you talked about yourself for ten minutes and didn’t ask one question, notice that.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Nerves and enthusiasm both come out as talking, so this is rarely about being self-absorbed. Something in you fills the space, and because talking feels like connection while it is happening, you leave thinking it went well while the other person leaves having been an audience. Almost nobody mentions it afterwards.
Set a small target for the next conversation: two questions, and one follow-up to an answer. Nothing more elaborate than that. People remember who asked about them far longer than they remember anything you said about yourself.
In your last long conversation, what did you ask the other person?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
