When software sorts your memories, chronology becomes only one possible version of your life.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Sorted by date, your life is one story. Sorted by person, place, or theme, it becomes several quite different ones, and each arrangement makes certain periods prominent and others invisible. Chronology feels like the true order only because it is the one we are used to.
Try deliberately looking at your own record another way, everything from one place, or everything with one person. Patterns show up that the timeline hides. It is a small exercise and it tends to reveal what has actually been continuous in your life as opposed to what merely happened recently.
How would you group your years if not by date?
