If nobody could inherit a title, how much authority would still look natural?

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Authority that arrives by inheritance gets treated as natural, because it was there before you and you never saw it granted. Strip the inheritance away and you would have to ask what the person can actually do, who chose them, and why they hold what they hold. A great deal of what looks like the settled order would suddenly need an argument, and some of it has never had one.

Try the question on something specific in your own world, a position, a claim, a family arrangement. Ask what would justify it if it had to start today. The point is not to demolish everything, only to notice how much of what feels inevitable is simply old.
