You can stop believing in a label before you know how to introduce yourself without it.

Leaving a label is easier than replacing it. You can know that the word no longer describes you and still have nothing to say when someone asks, because the label was doing real work in introductions, in community, in your own shorthand. The gap between abandoning and re-describing can last a long time and it is uncomfortable rather than wrong.
While you are in it, describing what you do rather than what you are usually gets you through a conversation. Do not rush to adopt a new word only to fill the silence. Being temporarily without a category is a legitimate state.
Which description of yourself have you outgrown but still use?
