The end of an event is easier to schedule than the end of its effect on you.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

An event has a scheduled ending and its effects do not. The meeting closes, the relationship ends, the diagnosis is delivered, and the thing itself is over on paper while it continues running inside you for a duration nobody set. Confusing the two makes people impatient with themselves for still carrying something that officially finished.

Stop using the end date as the measure of how you should be doing. Ask instead what the thing is still doing to you now and what would help with that. Time alone may not be enough, and there is no schedule you are behind on. The aftermath is its own event, and it deserves to be treated as one.
