A familiar task can be comforting when the rest of the day has become uncertain.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

When something large is unresolved, the mind has nowhere to rest, and being told to distract yourself rarely helps. What does help is often small and physical: washing up, folding, weeding, a task your hands already know. It asks nothing of your attention and gives the day one thing that behaves predictably.

On a hard day, choose the most ordinary job in the house and do it slowly. Not to be productive, but because there is relief in a thing that turns out as expected. If someone you love is waiting on news, doing one of these tasks beside them is a real kind of company.
