A hard result should not make you ashamed of having wanted something sincerely.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting something openly leaves a mark when it does not come off. The shame that follows is rarely about the outcome; it is about having been seen hoping, having told people, having let the wish be visible. That shame does its damage later, by teaching you to want quietly next time.

The sincerity was not the mistake, and it does not need a defense. Let yourself say that you wanted it, in the past tense, without adding an apology for the wanting. If a friend is carrying this, resist saying that it was not a big deal, and let it have been one.
