The courage to leave room for disagreement can make your own position stronger.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Airtight arguments invite suspicion. When a case is presented with no acknowledged weakness, listeners start hunting for the part being hidden, and they usually find it, at which point the whole position looks less honest than it is. Naming the strongest objection yourself shows you have already been there and were not frightened by it.

The next time you argue for something, say the best case against it before anyone else does. Ask what would change your mind and answer honestly. Confidence that admits its limits travels further.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where would inviting objections actually strengthen what you believe?
