Fear often exaggerates the consequences of trying and minimizes the consequences of never trying.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fear is a biased accountant. It itemises everything that could go wrong with acting and leaves the cost of not acting entirely off the books, because that cost is diffuse, slow, and never arrives as an identifiable event. So the ledger always shows action as the expensive option.

Do the missing column yourself. Write down what it will cost if you never try: the specific things, over a specific period. Put it next to the risks of trying. Seeing both sides written out is often enough to change the decision, without needing to talk yourself into anything.
