A clean dashboard can make an unfinished problem look comfortably contained.

REFLECTION
A tidy display is a claim about the world, and the tidiness is not part of the evidence. Numbers arranged in even boxes, all green, all updating, produce a feeling of control that the underlying situation may not have earned. The design was chosen by someone; the reality was not. What gets left out of a summary view is usually the part that is still moving.
When a report looks reassuring, ask what it does not show and who decided the boundaries. Then go and find one person actually doing the work, because a five-minute conversation will tell you things no arrangement of tiles ever can.
Which tidy summary lets you avoid looking at the actual mess?
