The person cleaning a shared tool may notice the defect its user was too busy to see.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Different jobs give different views of the same object. Whoever is using a thing is concentrating on the task, at speed, with the object as a means; whoever cleans it afterwards handles every surface slowly and with nothing else to attend to. That second position notices cracks, wear, the loose fitting. It is expertise produced by the role rather than by rank, and it is often held by people nobody thinks to ask.

Where you work or live, ask whoever does the maintenance what they have been noticing. And if you are that person, say what you have seen plainly, because you may be the only one who can.
