An old post can keep representing an opinion its writer has already outgrown privately.

Writing stays still while people move. Something said years ago keeps circulating in its original words, and anyone finding it meets a version of the writer who has since changed their mind quietly and without an announcement. The record is accurate about the past and misleading about the present. Most people are more current than their archive.
Be slow to judge somebody by an old sentence, and ask what they think now before deciding. If it is your own past writing, you can simply say you see it differently these days. That costs far less than defending a position you no longer hold.
Is an opinion you have outgrown still public somewhere online?
