A city can add destinations while making the journeys between them less humane.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Places get judged by their attractions and lived through their in-between. A city can gain galleries, restaurants and parks while the walking between them becomes hotter, louder, more exposed and harder for anyone slow, and the list of things to do grows as the experience of being there worsens. Destinations are easy to count. Journeys are what people actually spend their hours inside.
Notice your own routine routes this week and what they are like to be in, not just where they lead. Wherever you have any influence, improving the passage between things is usually the cheaper kindness.
What have you added to your life that made moving through it worse?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
