A visible beginner gives other hesitant people evidence that starting is allowed.

LEADERSHIP
Beginning in public does something for the people watching. When someone is visibly not good yet and carries on anyway, everyone else in the room who has been waiting until they are ready receives proof that the waiting was optional. Expertise on display can be discouraging. Awkward competence in progress is the thing that actually gives people permission.
If you are starting something, let it be seen rather than practised in secret until presentable. And if someone near you is at the clumsy stage, say that you are glad they are doing it. Both acts make the next beginner more likely.
Who might start something because they watched you be new at it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
