Do not return unchanged to the place that already taught you something.

Going back to a situation exactly as you left it means the situation gets to teach you the same lesson again, probably more expensively. Whatever it showed you the first time should be visible in how you approach it now. If nothing changed, nothing was learned.

Before returning to a relationship, a job, or a project that went badly, name what will be different in your behaviour. Be specific and modest about it. Something small and real beats a resolution that changes nothing in practice.
