Speeches are the frosting. The practices nobody filmed are the cake.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Speeches are the visible part and they are almost never the reason anything works. What actually built the thing was an accumulation of ordinary sessions that nobody recorded, in which the same people did unremarkable work repeatedly. Talking well about effort is not the same as the effort, and a group can tell the difference immediately. Frosting on nothing is just frosting.

Judge yourself on the sessions rather than the moments. If you are about to give a big talk, check first whether the work behind it would survive being looked at closely.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do your unfilmed hours match the speeches you give?
