Treat this year like a rough draft. Nobody grades the first version, and revisions are allowed.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Deciding that a stretch of your life is final makes every mistake in it permanent and every choice enormous. A draft works differently. You put something down to find out what it wants to be, knowing the whole purpose of a first pass is to generate material you can fix later.

Pick the choice you have been stalling on because you might get it wrong, and make it provisionally, with a date to review. Say out loud that you will look at it again in three months. Most decisions at this stage are far more reversible than the weight you give them.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you revise if this year were only a draft?
