Halftime is for adjustments, not excuses. Almost nobody’s first-half plan survives untouched.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Plans mostly survive contact with reality in a modified form, so the break exists to change what you are doing rather than to explain why it has not worked. Excuses are comfortable because they close the question, while an adjustment keeps it open and costs something. Nearly every opening plan needs editing, which makes yours needing it unremarkable.

At the midpoint of anything this week, take five minutes to name one thing you will change for the second half. Make it a specific action rather than a resolution to try harder. If you catch yourself listing reasons instead, stop and ask what you would do differently.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What adjustment would you make if you stopped explaining?
