Good leaders share the plan early enough for people to ask questions, not just in time for them to obey.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Timing decides whether a plan is a conversation or an order. Handed over at the last minute, there is nothing left to do but comply, and whatever the plan got wrong stays wrong. Shared early, it gets tested by the people who actually have to carry it out. Many leaders delay because they want to look certain, and pay for that certainty later.

With the next thing you organise, send the rough version before the final one. Say plainly that you want holes poked in it. Leave a day between telling people and starting, so the questions have somewhere to go.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you tell people the plan too late to question it?
