A coach who tells you the hard truth is trusting you to handle it.

A coach who softens everything has decided you cannot take it. The hard version takes more effort to deliver and carries a risk, because you might sulk, quit, or tell your parents, and plenty of adults avoid that risk by saying nothing useful. Being told the truth about your weaknesses is a statement about what they think you are capable of hearing. It is also the only information you can use.
Ask for the specific version rather than the general one. What is the one thing costing me minutes, and what do I do about it. Then say thanks and work on it, which is rarer than you would think.
