A welcome is incomplete when the person invited cannot use the entrance.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Hospitality is often measured by intention, and intention stops at the doorstep. Someone can be sincerely wanted and still be unable to get in, and at that point the sincerity is not doing the work. A step, a narrow door or a missing rail can quietly decide who is included, without anyone meaning to exclude.
Before your next gathering, walk your own entrance thinking about the guest who will find it hardest. Tell people ahead of time what they will meet on the way in. If something can be fixed for the evening, fix it.
Where does your welcome stop short of what someone actually needs?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
