A new chapter can be built around company, curiosity, and usefulness without becoming another career.

After work ends, the available models are surprisingly narrow: either a second career or a long holiday, and neither describes what most people actually want. What makes a week good is more ordinary than that. Seeing people regularly, learning something with no purpose attached, and being of use to somebody are enough to hold a life together.

Choose one of the three and put something in the diary this month. A class, a standing coffee, an hour helping with something local. Let it stay small, and let it not add up to anything.
